OnSite III Allergen Lateral Flow Tests - Walnut and Pecan

OnSite® III Allergen Lateral Flow Tests – Walnut and Pecan is designed for use in the qualitative determination of walnut residues obtained from sampling foods (solids, powders, and liquids) and surfaces. Walnuts, in combination with other tree nuts, constitute a relatively common cause of food allergy capable of triggering severe allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Accordingly, numerous countries require that food labels clearly indicate walnut content. To assist the food industry in establishing effective food safety practices, this rapid test kit can reliably detect walnut residues in food and on surfaces and equipment.

The Walnut and Pecan OnSite® III Allergen Kits consist of lateral flow devices (LFDs) that can be used to rapidly detect allergens in foods, rinse water and environmental surfaces (see link below to order). The LFDs are configured using antibodies that have been raised against the target allergen. To operate the kit, the sample is collected using the supplied scoop and then extracted for 2 min by shaking at room temperature. The tube is allowed to settle for 5 min by resting it. Thereafter, the sample extract is applied to the LFD using a dropper supplied with the kit. The fluid is wicked across the reagent zone, which includes a procedural control line (C), an overload line (O), and a test line (T). The inclusion of an overload line (O) is critical for testing foods that have high analyte contamination to prevent misinterpretation of false negative test outcomes.
