Sabouraud Dextrose Agar
Sabouraud Dextrose Agar, otherwise known as SDA or Sab Dex Agar, is an agar medium used for the cultivation of dermatophytes and both pathogenic and non-pathogenic yeasts and molds.
Sabouraud Dextrose Agar meet United States Pharmacopeia (USP), European Pharmacopoeia (EP) and Japanese Pharmacopoeia (JP)1-3 performance specifications, where applicable.
Principles: Enzymatic Digest of Casein and Peptic Digest of Animal Tissue provide nitrogenous compounds. Dextrose is the fermentable carbohydrate and inhibits bacterial growth due to its high concentration. Agar is the gelifying agent.
